Wednesday
Amidst my wallowing in self pity, i heard a news about a long lost friend.
"He probably have passed away".
Pei broke the news over lunch today, and i wasn't shocked. Kind of expected it.
His name is Thein Zaw Myin (can't remember the spelling), ex-driver for a Singapore company in Myanmar. He's a small man with the biggest and most sincere smile. He's the only son at home, and he has a broken heart from a childhood sweetheart. He's our big brother. He drove us everywhere in "tong lay tong nga" (the carplate # ). Gallivanting on the streets of Yangon, going to Thanlayin going to Shwedagon, going to see the white elephants. He's the one who helped us dress like locals and got us everywhere for free. He is the one who taught us Burmese and laughs when i speak it. He brings us to burmese KTV, to local teashops and to his house. He's also the one whom we visited in the hospital. I cried at the hospital, holding his sobbing sister. He looked like he's going to leave us and I couldn't bear seeing a fren go. But now he's gone. He's stopped writing.
My dearest teng-ay-jin, you're etched onto my memories. I pray that you've found peace and relief. I pray for the strength of ur family members.
My dear ko TZM, may the Lord be with you.
