Whoa! 4 simultaneous blasts within an hour. These guys really planned way ahead isn’t it? I’m relieved to hear that those that I know in London are safe and sound and I sincerely pray for their safety.

Come to think of it, if you compare the scale of destruction an explosion can cause, the well-connected and developed cities are way more vulnerable than the less developed areas. It’s such an irony that man, with their celebrated intelligence has built a confined and connected system to make ourselves susceptible to mass destruction. Oh, needless to say that the same intelligence has created some of the world’s most destructive weaponry. Thumbs up to civilization, man! This reminds me of the book by Ben Elton “ Gridlock” where he scoffs at the interconnectedness of the city creating the ripple effect to affect a geographic area many times the scale of the stimulant.

For those who read about disaster management, you’ll have come across the various stages of psychological reactions when disasters happen. The initial stages of shock and fear have more or less passed and now it’s the exciting time for finger pointing. Yawn, give the Muslims a break, it’s so mundane to know that the finger has once again, like a magnetic dial, been turned towards Al-Qaeda. I mean, I thought our theories that perhaps the French did it coz of the lost Olympics bid and since animosity between the two countries is historical, was so much more exciting than the oversold terrorism threat.

Zoom into a smaller scale incident i.e. ‘explosion’ at a personal level. My family is having power struggle over who’s in charge for the renovation works of my new home. Sigh, and I’ve been sitting through nights after nights of highly intense debates of what we should do about the renovation. I concur with my mom that this house belongs to all three of us (excluding my dog) and no one should be dominating the decision making process. As the old Chinese saying goes sai weng shi ma, yan zhi fei fu, maybe the loss of my job is a good thing coz it effectively gives me 2 full months to concentrate on this whole renovation thing before work get underway in Oct (estimated date for HDB to release the keys to us).

Guess that’s enough ranting.

May the dead find peace and may the living be strong. Amen.
