Bday countdown : 6
I finally got down to reply a letter that arrived in april. Bad me. But i couldn't find the right mood at the right time to do it. Well how can i when i'm perpetually tensed this whole sem? finally something accomplished. i will buy the envelope on tues and post it. I hope i havent lost this fren.
Anyway, instead of being a conscientious student, mugging for exams, i gave myself a long wk end break. Lavina finally brought "Khabi Kushi Khabi Gham" for me and i watched it last night. guess how long was the show? An amazing feat of movie marathon! 4 HOURS! no joke! and the best part is, i cried from the 2nd hour onwards and exhausted almost half a box of tissue. Yes,i'm a crybaby. and the consequence, i woke up with goldfish eyes and a whole day of tired eyes. even now, i'm not exactly sleepy but my eyes are really tired.
But this show is really a classic. I honestly encourage you guys to watch it. c'mon give the bollywood run-around the trees a break! I swear this show beats the hongkong taiwan shows flat! hands down!
The show revolves around a filthy rich Indian family who adopted a little boy called Rahul(acted by my dearest Sharul Khan!). However, when rahul grew up and fell in love with a commoner (by Kajol, super charming lady!), it met with dad's objection (Amitha bachan) and eventually left the house. However his departure also marked the break up of the Raichan household, where all the character were basically suked into sorrow and grieve. Finally, Rahul's younger brother, Rohan decided to bring the family back together. and of course its a happy ever after ending. Cliche u must be thinking but trust me, though the plot sounds simply, the show isnt. It is a deep one with very strong messages such as tradition vs progress/development, east meets west, old vs young, it traces many aspects the society and belive me, its not a touch and go thing. The show did it very well. In addition, the love in the show is definitely nothing superficial, nothign shallow. The love for their parents, the sisterly brotherly love, a wife's honoring of her husband and of course that of budding love of the youngsters. Lots of things shld be looked beyond the surface and Kareena kapoor's character sums up this fact real well. Furthermore, my god!, the script is fantastic. No mushy, cliche stuff but really poetic and meaningful phrases, that touches deeper areas than those rubbish.
" Friendships are bonds and some of these bonds can develop into something more complex, yudder yudder......called love"
" A husband is GOD....but i realise my husband is only a husband, not God".
(mom)" A mother's happiness is her son's happiness" (son) " ...and a son's happiness is seeing the mom happy"
I mean there are tons more than these. These are the shorter ones so i can remember ( i was too bz crying) but u get d pt , dun u?
Oh and for those who goes for cinematography, there are several crossovers that's simply awesome! i will compare it to those in Apocalypse Now, that's the standard, i'm not kidding!Talk about the use of lighting, brilliant!the colour, dark-light contrast, the mis-en-scene, oh man, wonderful! the use of silence....breaks ur heart, holds ur breath.
Its a wonderful production. not to be missed really. but if u hope to laugh at the round around the trees and the whole street of dancers, then forget it, i'd rather u miss the show than to discredit it. i'll just label u shallow.
